Citizen scientists have a long history of working alongside professionals to monitor habitats and the species they support. They play a vital role in detecting environmental issues and driving evidence-based change.
We run two citizen science programmes that offer hands-on, outdoor opportunities to engage with your local river and community. By taking part, you’ll have the chance to learn more about aquatic ecosystems, support our work, and protect freshwater habitats for the future.
Through regular fieldwork, you’ll explore your local river from a fresh perspective — observing it through the eyes of a researcher and contributing meaningful data that can protect and enhance our rivers.
Survey invertebrate populations each month to help spot early signs of environmental change
Collect weekly water samples for robust data on River Wensum health
